The late Ghanaian International Christian Atsu will be remembered on March 4th.

This comes after discussions between the footballer’s family, the Ministry of Sports, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), during which Evans Bobie, the Deputy Sports Minister, led representatives from both organizations to express their condolences to the family of the deceased player.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the one-week celebration will begin.

Over 46,000 people were killed in an earthquake in Turkey and Syria, including Atsu.

Atsu was a professional football player who mostly operated as a winger but could also be used as an offensive midfielder or left back.

With FC Porto, Atsu launched his international career. He also spent a season on loan with Rio Ave. He was acquired by Chelsea for £3.5 million in 2013, and after that, the club loaned him to Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, AFC Bournemouth, and Málaga.

He signed a permanent switch to Newcastle United in May 2017 after spending the 2016–17 campaign there on loan. He played for Al Raed in Saudi Arabia after his four-year contract expired then for Hatayspor in Turkey, where he was killed at age 31 in the Turkey-Syria earthquake of 2023.
