The 10 Members of Parliament (MPs) with the most absences during the House’s first session of 2025 have been identified by a new attendance record from Parliament.

Felix Akwetey Nii Okle, MP for Bortianor-Ngleshi Amanfro, is listed as the most absent legislator in the report, which covers 43 sittings from January to March 2025, having missed 23 of them.

Ernest Yaw Anim of Kumawu, who skipped 21 sittings, and Joseph Frempong of Nkawkaw, who missed 22 sittings, came after him.

Blay Nyameke Armah of Sekondi missed 16 sittings, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and Minister of Finance, missed 17 sittings, and Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd.) of Jaman South missed 19 sittings, making them among the other MPs with significant absentee rates.

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie (Effiduase-Asokore), Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah (Takoradi), and Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng (Obuasi West) each missed 14 sittings, while Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, missed 15.

Others, such as Francis-Xavier Sosu (Madina), Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (Wa Central), Minister for Employment, and Sam Nartey George (Ningo-Prampram), were each absent thirteen times.

Since then, Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has instructed parliamentary clerks to improve attendance tracking, cautioning that chronic absences may result in disciplinary action, including seat loss, in line with parliamentary regulations.
