President John Dramani Mahama has said that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

Mahama made the announcement during a condolence visit to the bereaved family at their Accra home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Mahama reflected on her remarkable legacy and emphasised that she was the longest-serving First Lady in Ghanaian history, having held the position for 19 years. He stated that the present constitutional limitations make it unlikely that this record will be surpassed.

Alongside his wife, Lordina Mahama, he also signed the book of condolences that was inaugurated in her honour.

The 31st December Women’s Movement was founded by Nana Konadu, who died on October 23, 2025. She was renowned for her groundbreaking leadership in women’s activism.

In addition to sincere remembrances, her passing still brings mourners to the Rawlings family home.
