The public, importers, and those involved in the manufacturing and construction industries are being warned by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry not to bring Portland cement into the county illegally.
All people or organisations wishing to import Portland cement for commercial use must first obtain a valid import licence from the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in accordance with the Export and Import (Restrictions on Importation of Portland Cement) Regulations, 2016 (Li 2240).
Since taking office, no import licenses have been issued, the Honourable Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP) has reaffirmed.
Therefore, it is illegal to continue importing Portland cement without the necessary authorisation.
According to Ghanaian law, this will result in severe enforcement measures, such as the confiscation of products, the imposition of fines, and prosecution.
The Ministry is collaborating closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to perform market inspections, bolster border surveillance, and step up enforcement actions in order to guarantee complete compliance.
Within the cement value chain, only authorised and licensed importers and manufacturers are allowed to conduct business.
The Ministry strongly advises the public to abstain from participating in or endorsing unlicensed import activities and to notify the appropriate authorities right away of any suspicious Portland cement imports.
This program is a component of the Ministry’s larger effort to safeguard local businesses, protect consumers, and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s construction industry.
