The University of Ghana (UG) has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely, with a new date yet to be announced.

In a notice dated October 10, 2026, the university informed students that the previously scheduled reopening date of Monday, October 12, 2026, had been postponed. Management indicated that a revised date would be communicated in due course.

The announcement means students preparing to return to campus for the new academic year will have to wait for further instructions from the university regarding the updated academic calendar.

University of Ghana Urges Students to Complete Online Registration

Despite the postponement, the University of Ghana has urged students to proceed with their online academic registration to secure their places for the 2026/2027 academic year.

According to the notice, students are expected to follow the registration procedures outlined in an earlier communication from the university.

Management emphasised that completing the registration process is important for students to secure their places in classes and establish their eligibility to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.

The bed allocation process is expected to take place soon, although the university has not provided a specific date in the notice.

Prof Gordon Awandare Signs Reopening Notice

The notice was signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, who communicated the postponement on behalf of the university.

Students have been encouraged to monitor official University of Ghana communication channels for updates regarding the new reopening date, academic registration requirements and residential accommodation arrangements.

The postponement is an important update for fresh and continuing students who had been preparing to resume lectures and other academic activities on October 12.

Until a revised date is announced, students are advised to complete all outstanding registration requirements and follow the university’s official instructions to avoid complications with class participation and hostel bed allocation.
