Two people are feared dead, while 12 others have reportedly sustained injuries, some of them critical, following a serious road accident involving an articulated truck carrying cement, a Toyota Voxy and several motorbikes on the Walewale Road in northern Ghana on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The fatal road accident has left several people seriously injured, with victims rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other nearby health facilities for emergency medical treatment.

How the Walewale Road Accident Happened

Preliminary reports indicate that the articulated truck, which was travelling from Walewale, allegedly lost control and collided with a Toyota Voxy heading from Bolgatanga towards Tamale.

The truck reportedly crashed into electricity poles during the incident, while several motorbike riders were caught up in the collision. Some of the riders were reportedly crushed in the crash.

The deceased are said to include a female student and a man who was riding a motorbike at the time of the accident.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about road safety in Ghana, particularly the risks associated with heavy-duty trucks, commercial vehicles and motorbikes on major highways.

Twelve Injured Victims Receive Emergency Treatment

Twelve injured people have reportedly been taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other health facilities for medical attention. Reports indicate that the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, with some said to be in critical condition at the emergency ward.

Medical personnel are attending to the injured as further details about their conditions emerge.

West Mamprusi MCE Confirms Two Deaths

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Mamprusi, Mohammed Jabaah, confirmed the accident to Citi News, stating that two people had died and several others had sustained injuries.

However, his account of the cause of the crash differed from the initial reports. According to Jabaah, it was the Toyota Voxy that lost control, leading to the collision involving the articulated truck and other vehicles.

“There was a collision between the articulated truck, which was carrying POP cement, and the Toyota Voxy. The Voxy lost control, resulting in the accident, involving several vehicles. Two people died and eight were injured,” he said.

The MCE’s statement cited eight injured people, while other reports put the number of injured victims at 12. The final casualty figures have yet to be independently established.

The Walewale Road accident highlights the dangers of road traffic crashes involving articulated trucks, passenger vehicles and motorbikes. Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.
