The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has questioned why President Nana Akufo-Addo is complaining about criticisms of the judiciary when, in the party’s opinion, the courts have given themselves away by their conduct vis-à-vis the procedures regarding the minority caucus’ ‘OccupyBoG’ march and the ongoing voter registration exercise.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah charged the EC with purposefully sending defective voting machines to its strongholds in an effort to add 1.3 million new eligible voters to the voter roll.

“There are just two locations where these malfunctions are occurring, and both are in the NPP stronghold. All the others, according to Mr. Nketiah, are located in the NDC’s stronghold.

Mr. Nketiah compared it to the president’s recent remarks at the Ghana Bar Conference opposing former President John Mahama’s criticism of the judiciary as being pro-NPP, saying: “It is like his excellency when he was complaining about politicking within the bar association which turns to campaign at the bar conference.”

“The president has the guts to complain about the people who are complaining when people complain about the administration of justice.”

“Can’t you see what’s going on that the same judiciary can find time to grant injunctions to people planning to quickly demonstrate against corruption at the BoG?”

Yet, he continued, “that same judicial system cannot find the time and space to grant such a crucial injunction against an exercise that is being wrongfully conducted and has the potential to rock this nation.”
