Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was granted bail following his appearance before the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

He was given two sureties and GH¢1 million in bail, which he has already complied with.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, he is anticipated to face three accusations relating to mining before the Accra High Court.

Yesterday, Monday, October 6, 2025, the CID invited Chairman Wontumi to be questioned for his alleged involvement in illicit mining activities.

Following Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine’s threat last Friday that the NPP regional chairman would be arrested if he did not go to the police, he made his appearance.

While warning the press that his client was completely working with investigators, Wontumi’s main attorney, Andy Appiah-Kubi, emphasised that any attempt to remove his current police inquiry bail would be “vigorously resisted”.
