The Social Protection Sector Working Group (SP SWG) exist to broadly exercise policy coherence, oversight, review and approval of plans and budgets for social protection in Ghana.
Since its inception in 2015, there have been 27 sessions of the SP SWG. And as mandated, SP SWG meets quarterly to share knowledge, identify and discuss key issues on social protection and poverty reduction in Ghana.
In view of the above, the Social Protection Directorate (SPD) under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection ( MOGCSP) held its 28th session of the Social Protection Sector working group meeting on Thursday 28th September, 2023 in Accra.
The session focused on sharing with members the findings from the two studies on social protection shock responses and way forward in the flooding incident and situation of host communities of asylum seekers in the northern Ghana.
The objectives of the meeting was to:
– Share findings, recommendations and way forward in the flood incidence
– Gather ideas to support Government in decision-making in the incident of shock.
In a brief statement on behalf of the Sector Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the Ag. Director of the Social Protection Directorate, Madam Abena Annobea Asare indicated that there’s a need to ensure that coordination and collaboration efforts are structured and organized with clearly defined roles and responsibilities taking into consideration the cultural and social sensitivities of the affected communities.
She thanked stakeholders for their unflinching commitment to tackling the critical matters concerning social protection in the country.
Participants in the working Group included parliamentarians, SP intervention implementing Agencies, Development partners, Academia and CSO’s.
