The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) recovered 98 unregistered herbal medical products during a market surveillance operation at Awoshie and Boundary Road in Accra from November 22 to 24, 2025.
The seized commodities include popular products including Amenazel Herbal Tonic, Amenazel Herbal Bitters, and Poget Herbal Mixture, all of which were being sold without the necessary FDA registration.
According to the Authority, the exercise is part of continuous national efforts to protect public health by removing unauthorized and potentially hazardous items from the market.
The FDA emphasized that enforcement actions will step up in the upcoming weeks and warned manufacturers and dealers who continue to distribute unregistered goods.
The Authority said, “To those selling unregistered products, we will not relent in our commitment to ensuring public health and safety, so sooner than you think we will get to you.”
Every seized item will be disposed of safely in accordance with FDA guidelines.
