Children between the ages of six and fourteen can now register for the Ghana Card at the National Identification Authority’s (NIA) Premium Centers nationwide.

A statement signed by Mr. Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs, and released in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, stated that the program is part of the authority’s responsibility to include every Ghanaian in the national identity system from an early age.

Registration is now only possible at Premium Centers, where guardians or parents must pay GH¢310. The NIA explained that this is not a new cost but rather the authorized charge for services at the centers.

Additionally, parents will need to present identification documentation for the child.

The Authority states that the child’s current Ghanaian passport, an original birth certificate, or the Ghana Card of a parent or legal guardian who can attest for the child are all acceptable forms of documentation.

The authority said that in order to increase accessibility, starting on Monday, September 15, 2025, its online booking system will be available for all 11 premium centers around the country, enabling families to make appointments ahead of time.

To help families outside of large cities, the NIA also announced that in the upcoming weeks, registration for children will be expanded to all District Offices. After registering, children who successfully finish the process will receive their cards.

Children’s inclusion is part of efforts to promote universal registration of all Ghanaians, the authority stated, urging parents and guardians to pay attention to the standards.
