According to Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Supreme Court’s reasoned decision in the case of the ousted Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, was unavailable when the President’s nominee for the position of Chief Justice was up for vote in the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

He claimed that the Appointments Committee recently, in 2019, examined and approved this same nominee as a justice of the Supreme Court, but it was crucial for Committee Members in the Minority to assess the nominee’s judgments on all other cases, including the James Gyakye Quayson case since the vetting in 2019.

According to a statement from Mr. Agbodza, the Minority Members on the Appointments Committee of Parliament rated the nominee favorably on all pertinent criteria with the exception of James Gyakye Quayson, whose unresolved case would have allowed them to make a decision.

The announcement stated that the Minority’s decision would be finalized by the court’s reasoned judgment on this topic by June 7, 2023. The legislators also stated that they had properly informed their Majority-side colleagues of their challenge and anticipate their support.
