The June 4th event this year will be held in the Hohoe municipality of the Volta Region.
The 44th year since its beginning will be in 2023.
On Saturday, June 3, the program will begin with a fitness walk in the morning and a public lecture in the afternoon at the campuses of the St Francis College of Education (FRANCO). The memorial service will culminate with the laying of a wreath at Hohoe’s E.P. park the following morning, Sunday, at 8:00am.
The theme of the program this year is “Saving Our Democracy: The Spirit of the Fourth of June.”
John Dramani Mahama, the former president and standard bearer for the NDC, will be the distinguished guest of honor at this year’s festival.
Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Dan Abodakpi, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, Mawutor Agbavitor, Volta Regional Chairman, Governs Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu and Minority Chief Whip, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu are additional notable speakers and guests. The others are Worlanyo Tsekpo, the Parliamentary Candidate for Hohoe, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, MP for Krachi West, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, MP for Klortey Korley, Comrade Shine, Comrade Gyamwodie, and Comrade Eric Bartey.
The NDC celebrates June 4th as a major annual event to commemorate Ghana’s 1979 Revolution, which aimed to awaken the nation’s consciousness and instill in its populace the values of probity and accountability.
In a statement dated May 30, 2023, Mr. Sorkpa K. Agbleze, the Volta Regional Communications Officer, released the celebration’s schedule.
“We are by this release, calling on the general public to join the NDC and actively participate in this historic event in Hohoe,” the statement read.
