The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign was formally inaugurated by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Kaneshie Market.

In order to strengthen community action, increase advocacy, and advance the protection of women and girls from all types of abuse, the launch gathered together development partners, civil society organizations, leaders in the transportation sector, and members of the public.

This year’s campaign, which has as its theme “Unite! End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” emphasizes the critical need to combat growing online dangers and detrimental behaviors in digital environments.

The Minister announced that work on a new Domestic Abuse Bill and its supporting Legislative Instrument is progressing and that Cabinet has adopted the updated National Domestic Violence Policy.

She also mentioned ongoing community-level initiatives, such as the mobilization of more than 100 professional volunteers to support survivors and the training of more than 200 market executives as paralegals.

The creation of a relationship with the transportation sector was one of the launch’s main highlights.

The program, known as “16 Routes, 16 Stations, 16 Destinations,” will make use of Ghana’s public transportation system to provide commuters around the nation with essential information on gender-based violence, digital safety, and reproductive health.

The program would “strengthen accountability and safety measures within the transport sector” during the course of the 16-day campaign, according to UNFPA Country Representative Dr. Wilfred Ochan, who reiterated the organization’s support.

A symbolic torch-passing ceremony marked the end of the event and the beginning of national advocacy efforts to make Ghana a safer and more welcoming place for women and girls.

The Ministry urged people to utilize its toll-free hotline, 0800 111 222, to report instances of abuse.
