Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to theatre and the creative arts at the University of Ghana’s Abibigromma Theatre Festival launch ceremony.

She highlighted theatre as a vital vehicle for cultural preservation, education, and national development, emphasising the creative and tourism sectors’ importance to Ghana’s economy and announced initial financing for the Creative Arts Fund.

The evening also highlighted Abibigromma, the School of Performing Arts’ resident theatre company, which is known for its Afrocentric shows, educational outreach, and community impact.

The necessity of repositioning Abibigromma to strengthen its position within the University and the national creative ecosystem was underlined by speakers, including the Provost of the College of Humanities.

It is anticipated that the festival would uphold Ghana’s cultural traditions and highlight the significance of theatre for the country’s progress.
