The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has denied allegations that she is difficult to reach, insisting that she maintains an open-door policy to promote effective communication within the organisation.
In a letter dated October 24, 2026, addressed to the GTA Board Chairperson, Ms Houadjeto expressed surprise and disappointment over a petition submitted by her deputy, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, to the sector minister on October 22.
Mr Aggrey had complained that repeated attempts to arrange meetings with the CEO through her secretary were unsuccessful, allegedly affecting administrative operations and engagements with stakeholders.
GTA CEO Proposes Measures to Improve Communication
In response to the concerns, Maame Efua Houadjeto has proposed five measures to improve communication and strengthen management coordination at the Ghana Tourism Authority.
The proposed measures include regular executive meetings between the CEO and Deputy CEO to discuss departmental priorities, operational challenges and other important issues.
She also recommended establishing a clear procedure for handling urgent matters, including escalation channels for situations where scheduled meetings cannot take place.
Other proposals include ensuring that meeting requests are properly communicated and acknowledged, clarifying delegated responsibilities and approval procedures, and promoting constructive engagement among executive management members.
According to Ms Houadjeto, the measures are intended not only to address the concerns raised by her deputy but also to improve the overall effectiveness of the GTA’s management processes.
Houadjeto Calls for Cooperation at Ghana Tourism Authority
The GTA CEO reaffirmed management’s commitment to professionalism, institutional discipline and effective administration.
She also acknowledged Abeiku Santana’s contribution to the authority and expressed confidence that both executives could continue working together to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
Ms Houadjeto further proposed a meeting at the earliest mutually convenient time to agree on practical arrangements for implementing the suggested measures.
The development follows growing concerns over communication and access to senior management at the state tourism agency.
GTA Deputy CEOs and Their Responsibilities
Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, widely known as Abeiku Santana, was appointed Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority in 2025, with responsibility for Marketing and Special Projects.
The authority also has two other deputy chief executives: Ben Anane Nsiah, who oversees General Services, and Ekow Sampson, who is responsible for Operations. Both have reportedly worked at the GTA for more than 20 years.
The proposed measures could help strengthen coordination among the authority’s executive team and improve the delivery of tourism-related services in Ghana.
The outcome of discussions between the executives and the board is expected to be important in resolving the reported communication concerns and maintaining effective leadership at the Ghana Tourism Authority.
