Tension is mounting within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region following allegations of manipulation of the delegates’ album ahead of the party’s constituency elections.
Some aggrieved delegates have accused individuals responsible for compiling the electoral register of allegedly removing the names of qualified delegates and replacing them with those of unqualified persons to favour certain candidates.
The allegations have sparked anger among sections of the party, with affected delegates demanding an urgent investigation into the compilation of the delegates’ album.
Aggrieved NDC Delegates Invoke Antoa Deity
Reports by Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame indicate that some dissatisfied delegates have performed traditional rituals involving libation and the slaughtering of sheep while invoking the Antoa Nyamaa deity and other river deities against anyone allegedly involved in the purported manipulation.
One of the aggrieved delegates expressed frustration, arguing that members who had worked hard for the party should not be unfairly excluded from the electoral process.
The delegates maintain that any deliberate alteration of the electoral register could undermine the credibility of the constituency elections and deepen divisions within the NDC.
Delegates Demand Investigation and Electoral Transparency
The aggrieved members have called on the NDC’s Ashanti Regional and national leadership to intervene urgently and investigate the allegations.
Their demands include a comprehensive audit of the delegates’ album to verify the eligibility of registered voters and ensure that every qualified delegate has a fair opportunity to participate in the elections.
They have also urged the party leadership to consider suspending the elections if necessary until the concerns are properly addressed.
The delegates insist that the electoral process must be free from favouritism, intimidation and the deliberate exclusion of eligible members.
NDC Constituency Elections Face Growing Pressure
The controversy has raised concerns about internal party democracy, electoral fairness and unity within the NDC in Atwima Kwanwoma.
The aggrieved delegates have warned that failure to resolve the dispute before voting could escalate tensions and threaten peace and cohesion within the constituency.
Attention is now focused on the party’s leadership to establish the facts and take appropriate action to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency executives were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The allegations have therefore not been independently established, and no response from the constituency executives was available.
