The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has distributed electoral materials to constituency centres across Ghana for its constituency executive elections, with approximately 15,000 aspirants expected to contest various leadership positions in 276 constituencies.
The elections, scheduled to take place over two days, will be supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), while the party’s election committees coordinate and monitor the process.
According to Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, spokesperson for the NDC Congress Elections Committee, the exercise will determine new constituency executives, including chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, secretaries, treasurers, organisers, communications officers, women’s organisers and youth organisers.
Ghana Police Intensify Security for NDC Elections
The Ghana Police Service has announced comprehensive security arrangements to ensure peaceful and orderly voting throughout the country.
The arrangements follow a meeting between NDC officials and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno and his operations team. The IGP subsequently engaged regional police commanders and directed them to take personal responsibility for security during the elections.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Theodore Hlormenu, Director of Operations, said police personnel would protect polling centres, escort electoral materials and provide security for Electoral Commission officials and party delegates.
Additional measures include standby security teams, police patrols and intelligence gathering by the Police Intelligence Directorate. Police will also pay particular attention to identified electoral flashpoints to prevent disturbances and maintain law and order.
The police have warned potential troublemakers against disrupting the elections and urged delegates to vote peacefully and leave polling centres after casting their ballots.
NDC Begins Grassroots Reorganisation Ahead of 2028 Elections
Dr Otokunor explained that the constituency executive elections form part of the NDC’s internal reorganisation strategy ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.
The exercise is expected to produce effective grassroots leaders responsible for managing party affairs, strengthening constituency structures and coordinating political activities nationwide.
He urged aspirants and party members to demonstrate discipline, respect democratic principles and cooperate to ensure transparent, peaceful and credible elections.
NDC Regional Executive Elections Scheduled for November 2026
Following the constituency elections, the NDC will proceed with its regional executive elections on November 14 and 15, 2026. The Regional Youth and Women Conference is scheduled for November 13, 2026, ahead of the regional polls.
The series of internal elections is expected to shape the party’s leadership structures and organisational preparedness as it positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
