Africa World Airlines (AWA) has officially resumed direct flights between Accra and Abidjan, restoring a key air travel connection between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire after the route was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Accra-Abidjan flight route was relaunched on Monday, August 31, 2026, in a ceremony attended by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and Founder and Board Chairman of Africa World Airlines.
The event also brought together a delegation from Asogli State, Deputy Minister for Transport and Jomoro Member of Parliament Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Ghanaian diplomatic representatives, aviation industry officials and government representatives from Côte d’Ivoire.
AWA Strengthens Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire Air Travel
Speaking at the relaunch, Togbe Afede XIV welcomed the restoration of the direct flight service and highlighted the importance of stronger connections between African countries.
He reaffirmed Africa World Airlines’ vision of connecting Africans through air travel, making it easier for people across the continent to travel, conduct business and build stronger economic and social relationships.
The renewed Accra to Abidjan flight service will operate four times every week, with flights scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The regular flight schedule is expected to provide passengers with a more convenient and reliable option for travelling between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
Direct Accra-Abidjan Flights to Boost Trade and Tourism
The return of the direct air route is expected to support regional trade, tourism, investment and economic integration across West Africa.
