The Ashanti Regional Police Command is searching for armed robbers who attacked the Berekum Chelsea team bus and killed Dominic Frimpong, one of the team’s players.
He died from bullet wounds he received during the team’s bus robbery.
The squad was going from Samreboi to Berekum on the evening of Sunday, April 12, 2026, when the attack happened on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District.
Six armed guys, three of whom had pump-action guns, attacked the bus carrying roughly thirty players and officials, according to a statement from the police.
The driver veered off the road and into a neighbouring thicket in an attempt to flee.
Dominic Frimpong was shot during the incident and sent to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was treated until being declared dead.
George Owusu Afriyie, a 52-year-old passenger, was also robbed of GH¢4,500 during the assault.
Since then, more officers and crime-scene specialists have been sent to the area, according to police, and investigations are still underway.
To yet, two expended BB cartridges have been recovered from the area to help identify the culprits.
The terrible occurrence has shocked the football community, and the police have reassured the public that they are working to apprehend the offenders.
