His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, has commenced a State Visit to Belarus today, Friday, June 5, 2026.
His Excellency Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, invited the visit.
The goal of the visit is to improve Ghana-Belarusian diplomatic relations. Additionally, it will investigate new avenues for technical, agricultural, and commercial collaboration.
President Mahama will lay a wreath at the Victory Monument when he gets to Minsk. This act pays tribute to Belarusian partisans and members of the Soviet Army who bravely fought in World War II.
A high-level encounter between the two heads of state will be a major feature. There will be confidential bilateral negotiations between Presidents Mahama and Lukashenko.
An extended diplomatic meeting with ministers and top officials from both nations will come next. Strategic collaborations in agriculture, education, and commerce will be the main topics of discussion.
President Mahama will visit Brest, one of Belarus’ most ancient western cities, as part of his industrialisation and food security program. He will have a tour of one of the biggest milk, cheese, and baby product processors in the area.
It is anticipated that this visit will promote knowledge exchange and possible collaborations in agro-processing.
President Mahama will pay his respects at the location of the 1941 Soviet defence against Nazi forces at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex while he is in Brest.
A visit to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park is part of the schedule. It is one of the last primaeval woods in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The two nations’ dedication to environmental preservation is demonstrated by this visit.
At least four historic bilateral agreements will be signed during the State Visit. These accords aim to promote institutional cooperation and reciprocal development between Ghana and Belarus.
On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, President Mahama is scheduled to leave Belarus and return to Accra.
