The deadline for international money transfer operators (IMTOs) to register has been extended by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to July 31, 2026.
According to the Bank, the delay would allow current businesses to finish their registration and make sure their operations complied with its regulations.
The Central Bank advised all IMTOs in the nation to take advantage of the extra time to submit the necessary paperwork and regularise their operations in a public notification.
It threatened to prohibit operators from operating in Ghana if they did not register by the revised deadline.
Any collaborations between unregistered operators and banks, specialised deposit-taking organisations, and payment service providers would be terminated after July 31, the BOG further stated.
It stated that such operators might be subject to additional regulatory action. All financial institutions must abide by the guideline and guarantee compliance.
For assistance with the registration process, the BoG has recommended that operators get in touch with its Payment Systems Department.
