The National Seed Council was established by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to offer strategic direction and assistance for the growth of Ghana’s seed sector.

Hon. John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, presided over the inauguration, which took place in Accra.

In order to increase agricultural output and achieve food security, he underlined the need of high-quality seeds, pointing out that investments in fertiliser, irrigation, mechanisation, and Farmer Service Centers would only be completely successful if they are backed by a robust seed system.

Additionally, he urged quicker certification and licensing procedures so that regional seed businesses could provide better, climate-resilient types that are resistant to pests, diseases, and drought.

Alhaji Abubakari Mumuni, the council’s chairman, thanked the members for their trust and reassured the Ministry of their dedication to carrying out their job.

In addition to increasing Ghana’s overall agricultural production and food security, the Council is anticipated to play a significant role in expanding access to high-quality planting materials.
