Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has completed the first phase of his nationwide campaign tour with a visit to the Greater Accra Region, becoming the 16th region covered in his efforts to strengthen the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Agyarko’s campaign is focused on rebuilding the NPP’s political base, reclaiming parliamentary seats lost in previous elections and strengthening the party’s grassroots structures to support the presidential ambition of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 elections.
During his engagement with party executives in Greater Accra, Agyarko highlighted the strategic importance of the region to the NPP’s quest to win the presidency. He noted that the party must improve its electoral performance in the capital because Greater Accra’s voting strength and demographic diversity make it a critical battleground in Ghanaian politics.
He stressed that the different constituencies across Greater Accra have unique political, social and economic challenges, requiring constituency-specific campaign strategies rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
As part of his proposed welfare policy for the party, Agyarko said NPP officers must receive the necessary training, empowerment and logistical support to effectively mobilise voters and strengthen party structures at the grassroots level.
He further pledged that resources would be distributed based on the specific needs of individual constituencies and made available on time to enable party executives to maximise their impact during election campaigns.
According to Agyarko, winning Greater Accra will require more than political slogans. He said the NPP must combine local political knowledge, competent party executives, timely funding, effective grassroots mobilisation and targeted constituency strategies to secure electoral victories.
The former Energy Minister expressed his appreciation to the Greater Accra Regional and Constituency Executives for the warm reception and the numerous endorsements received during his campaign tour.
The latest development comes as the NPP continues preparations for the 2028 Ghana general elections, with party leaders and presidential hopefuls intensifying their engagements with delegates and grassroots supporters across the country.
