Leaders of the parliamentary minority caucus have been invited by the Ghana Police Service to participate in a demonstration demanding that Addison resign on September 5, 2023.
The caucus informed the police in a letter that its march had been planned for September 5, 2023.
Minority leader Cassiel Ato Forson said in a statement that CSOs, progressive forces, and well-intentioned Ghanaians will participate in the march.
The BoG’s illicit printing of money (about GHc80 billion) between 2021 and 2022 on behalf of the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP regime resulted in a hyperinflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022, according to Dr. Ato Forson.
He emphasized that “this singular of BoG” had a detrimental effect on businesses and livelihoods and had driven around 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty in 2022 alone.
As representatives of the people, the caucus declared that it is “totally disgusted” by the Bank of Ghana’s “crass mismanagement and reckless mishandling of the affairs, which resulted in a gargantuan loss of GHc60.8 billion and a negative equity of GHc55.1 in 2022 with its attendant hardships on Ghanaians.”
The Parliament House to the Bank of Ghana march will take place from 8 am to 6 pm. In response, the Accra Regional Command acknowledged “receipt of your letter No. OML/PH/23/0001 dated 21/08/2023 in respect to the above subject matter” in a press release on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
The Command desires to invite you to a meeting on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 10 am at the Accra Regional Police Headquarters to discuss the logistics of your proposed protest.
