Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the minority leader, has reprimanded the government for approving one of the worst IMF programs.

He chastised the government for first insisting it would not approach the IMF even though all indications pointed to the economy being in a coma.

The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government “signed the worst form of an IMF programme since Mansa Musa went on a pilgrimage to Mecca,” he claimed, when it ultimately opted to leave.

Dr. Ato Forson said in his Thursday address to the audience at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) that the government had agreed to one of the worst IMF deals.

“It is important to note that this is the first IMF program that included a debt restructuring scheme, also known as “haircuts,” and it was the first time in Ghana’s history.

The rich, middle class, and even the poor have all suffered because of this ‘haircuts’ campaign.

Our banking and financial institutions are now insolvent, bankrupt, and figuratively on their knees as a result of the same debt restructure.

The member from Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam called for the Bank of Ghana Governor’s resignation after criticizing him for some of the problems with the economy.

That was in line with the event’s topic, which was to talk about how the economy got to this point of weakness.

The Minority will demand the resignation of the Governor, his two deputies, and the bank’s directors during a protest march on Tuesday, September 5.
