In order to expand the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II program, President Akufo-Addo is anticipated to negotiate with members of the national house of chiefs.

According to a statement from the ministry of information, “Recognized as customary owners of lands in Ghana, the release of land by our revered Chiefs to their subjects participating in the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II will significantly address the challenge of access to land for agricultural production”.

President Akufo-Addo announced the start of Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Phase II on Monday, August 28. He highlighted that PFJ II will build on the progress established so far under the first phase.

He continued by saying that the first phase, which began in 2017, benefited more than 2.7 million farmers and other value chain participants throughout the nation under five broad modules: food crops, tree crops, also known as Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), horticulture, livestock sector, also known as Rearing for Food and Jobs, and mechanization, under which the government sought to lessen labor-intensive aspects of farming, in part by establishing Agriculture Mechanization Centers throughout the country.
