A 60-year-old woman from Janga, West Mamprusi Municipality of the Northeast Region, Musah Azaratu Poanaa, was shot dead.

Local reports said she was shot dead by two young men who believed she was trying to bewitch a member of the community. According to witnesses, the attackers were the sons of the man whom the deceased was accused of trying to bewitch.

The victim’s daughter, Musah Asana, recounted the heartbreaking incident, saying the attackers entered their house, fired warning shots and then shot her mother dead. The motive for the attack was based on accusations of witchcraft against the victim.

Asana revealed that the attackers accused her mother of being a witch, and this tragic incident followed their threats on September 23, claiming that her mother intended to harm her father them through witchcraft. Asana urgently calls for the arrest of two young men identified as Abila and Fatau.

She expressed disappointment with the police response, which was said to have failed to apprehend the suspect. She emphasized her desire for the government to act quickly and ensure justice is served.
