The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has denounced claims that Ghana Police Service officers arrested and allegedly assaulted Democracy Hub participants during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest.
The NCCE wants to remind everyone involved that the right to freedom of assembly, which includes the “freedom to participate in processions and demonstrations,” is a basic human right.
The NCCE claimed in a news statement dated September 25, 2023, “There is absolutely no justification for the alleged heavy-handed and excessive response by the personnel of the Ghana Police Service on the demonstrators.”
