The US has convicted Ghanaian socialite and singer Mona Faiz Montrage, better known by her stage name Hajia4Reall, to one year and one day in prison for her role in a romance scam.
On November 11, 2022, Hajia4Real was taken into custody in the UK following her participation in the Ghana Music Awards UK.
She was extradited to the US in May 2023 following her arrest to face charges.
The judge opted to be lenient, despite the prosecution’s request for a 37-month sentence for the accused, according to Inner City Press. The court declared, “I sentence Ms Montrage to one year and one day in prison, the extra day to allow “good time.”
Defense stated: “We propose she be allowed to fly back to Ghana as soon as she is released, with no ICE detention.
Prior to this, Hajia4Real entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to receive stolen money in front of US Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave for her involvement in the money laundering of multiple romance scams.
