International reggae star Gramps Morgan has revealed that he is 46% Ghanaian, according to DNA test results that traced a significant portion of his ancestry to Ghana.
He made the revelation while performing at the High-Level Consultative Conference on “Next Steps” under the United Nations Resolution on enslaved Africans, held in Accra on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The Jamaican artist said the DNA findings confirmed a strong Ghanaian heritage, which he described as part of his personal journey to better understand his roots
“I am one of the children of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. I have done research to find out the truth. When I did a DNA test, I found out that I am 46% Ghanaian. So let the truth be told,” he said.
Gramps Morgan added that his discovery further strengthens his connection to Africa and the history of enslaved Africans in the diaspora.
He also reaffirmed his support for ongoing calls for reparations, a campaign currently being championed by Ghana.
The conference brought together world leaders, diplomats, and stakeholders to discuss the next steps in implementing the United Nations framework on the legacy of slavery and its impact on descendants of enslaved Africans.
