Hon. Emelia Arthur Meets with Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA)

Today, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Hon. Emelia Arthur, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MOFA), made a quick courtesy call on Heather D’Agnes, the Chief of Party for the Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA), and invited her to her office.

Along with talking about current projects meant to help coastal communities and enhance the fishing industry, the meeting’s main objective was to improve cooperation between the Ministry and GFRA. The Hon. Minister was congratulated on her appointment by Madam D’Agnes, who was joined by high-ranking GFRA officials. She also expressed expectations for friendly working relationships.

The USAID-funded Ghana Fisheries Recovery Project is a five-year initiative that provides Ghana with financial and technical assistance from 2021 to 2026.

In order to restore fish supplies, promote sustainable fisheries management techniques, improve the lives of fishing communities, and ensure the sector’s long-term resilience, the project intends to assist Ghana in addressing the issues affecting the fishing industry.

Hon. Emelia Arthur promised to support GFRA’s programs and thanked the organization for its efforts in the area. In order to guarantee active community involvement, she also emphasized the necessity of fortifying local unit committees.

The Minister expressed her excitement about the Fisheries Management Plan, especially its emphasis on Marine Protected Areas, and she looked forward to working with GFRA in the future to improve fishing communities.
