In order to guarantee seamless service delivery, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has informed all healthcare providers with NHIS credentials that reimbursement of validated claims will be made promptly and consistently beginning this week.

“The recent uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) as announced by the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, and in fulfillment of a campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama” was the reason for the action, according to a statement dated March 25, 2025, signed by Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, CEO of NHIA.

According to the statement, NHIS-compliant facilities are expected to exhibit “full cooperation and strict adherence to NHIA policies and guidelines.”

The declaration reminded medical professionals to:

– Stamp out illegal charges (co-payment) and refrain from imposing all unauthorized fees on NHIS members.

– Ensure accurate claims submissions resulting from real patient attendance and compliance with NHIA regulations.

– Deliver quality healthcare services in line with NHIS standards and protocols.

The NHIA stated that it will keep posting information about claims paid on its website and improve its oversight of medical facilities around the country in order to maintain accountability.

“Any provider found to be in violation of the mutually agreed-upon NHIA policies, including the imposition of unauthorized charges, will be subject to sanctions without exception,” the statement cautioned.

“We count on your collaboration to maintain a transparent and efficient healthcare system for all.”
