The Free Primary Health Care Programme, a significant policy change intended to increase everyone’s access to necessary and reasonably priced healthcare, was launched by President John Dramani Mahama.
The initiative, which was started at the Shai Osudoku District Hospital, represents a renewed emphasis on preventative care, with a focus on routine screening, early diagnosis, and increased community health services.
In addition to removing administrative and financial obstacles to receiving basic treatment at the primary level, the program promotes routine checkups for all citizens and establishes a national preventive health approach.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), the Minister of Health, stated that the package’s services will be provided at no cost at the point of use and characterised the strategy as a shift toward proactive healthcare backed by digital innovation and national outreach.
The intervention is anticipated to strengthen Ghana’s progress toward universal health coverage by reducing financial burdens on residents and increasing access to primary healthcare.
