President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to grab the opportunity and expedite concerted action to achieve Universal Health Coverage and eliminate preventable diseases across the continent.

Speaking at the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Health’s Opening Ceremony in Accra, President Mahama emphasised that the continent’s current struggle is not only against poverty and inequality but also against the illnesses and health issues that still limit millions of Africans’ potential.
In addition to bolstering health systems, increasing access to high-quality healthcare, and encouraging more investment in the industry, he called on leaders to seek audacious, indigenous solutions that put Africa firmly in charge of its health future.
President Mahama emphasised that the success of the summit must be reflected in better-equipped medical facilities, better access to medications, prompt diagnosis, and better care for mothers and children. He also emphasised the need for results that citizens can directly experience in their daily lives.
Renewed commitments to eradicating AIDS and tuberculosis, enhancing maternal health, and promoting equitable healthcare for all Africans are anticipated from the summit.
