The Christian Council of Ghana has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its efforts to promote transparency, responsible gold trading and environmental sustainability in Ghana’s mining sector.
The Council made the commendation during a courtesy visit to GoldBod, where the delegation discussed Ghana’s mineral resources, responsible mining practices and sustainable economic development.
Leading the delegation, Dr. Joyce Laco Steiner, Director of Programmes and Advocacy, described Ghana’s mineral wealth as a divine blessing that must be managed responsibly, transparently and with accountability to protect the interests of both current and future generations.
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, explained the institution’s mandate under Act 1140, highlighting its role in strengthening Ghana’s gold trading sector, generating foreign exchange and supporting macroeconomic stability.
Mr. Gyamfi also outlined several initiatives being pursued by GoldBod, including the development of local gold refining, expansion of jewellery production, and the establishment of an international-standard fire assay laboratory to improve gold testing and quality assurance.
He further highlighted GoldBod’s commitment to addressing the environmental impact of mining through land reclamation and the rehabilitation of water systems affected by mining activities.
The engagement between the Christian Council of Ghana and GoldBod underscored a shared commitment to responsible gold management, sustainable mining, environmental protection and national development.
The partnership is expected to contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring that Ghana’s gold resources are managed transparently while supporting economic growth, environmental sustainability and long-term national development.
