The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has directed all staff of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies to enrol in the government’s One Million Coders Programme by Friday, September 11, 2026.
The directive applies to employees across all levels of the Ministry and its agencies, including the Minister, Deputy Minister, Chief Director, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and other staff.
Speaking during the National Girls in ICT Day celebration on Monday, September 7, 2026, Sam George said every staff member must provide evidence of registration to the Chief Director before the deadline.
Ministry Staff Must Complete Coding Course
Beyond registration, the Communications Minister directed employees who enrol in the One Million Coders Programme to complete at least one course and obtain a certificate by the end of 2026.
The initiative is part of efforts to improve digital literacy and coding skills among public sector workers while preparing employees to contribute more effectively to Ghana’s rapidly growing digital economy.
Sam George said the directive was intended to ensure that workers within the Ministry and its affiliated agencies acquire practical digital skills, technology skills and coding knowledge that can support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
One Million Coders Programme Targets Digital Skills Development
The government’s One Million Coders Programme is designed to expand access to coding and technology education and help build a digitally skilled workforce in Ghana.
According to Sam George, the programme should not be viewed as an initiative limited to young people or technology professionals, as public sector employees also need to develop relevant digital competencies.
He has therefore instructed the Ministry’s leadership to ensure that the enrolment directive reaches every agency and every category of employee under the Ministry.
The Minister said the requirement would cover everyone from senior officials to staff in various portfolios across the affiliated agencies.
Deadline Set for September 11
All employees affected by the directive have until Friday, September 11, 2026, to enrol and submit proof of registration.
Staff are also expected to progress beyond registration by completing at least one approved course and earning a certificate before the end of 2026.
The directive forms part of the government’s broader strategy to build a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting innovation, technology development and Ghana’s digital economy.

The Minister’s directive comes as Ghana continues to promote digital transformation, ICT education, coding, technology skills and digital innovation as important drivers of economic development.
