Access Bank Ghana has recorded a 53% increase in loans and advances to GH¢5.50 billion in the first nine months of 2026, despite a decline in profitability compared with the same period in 2025.
The bank’s unaudited financial statements for the nine months ending September 2026 show that its loan portfolio increased from GH¢3.59 billion to GH¢5.50 billion, representing an expansion of approximately GH¢1.90 billion.
The significant growth in lending highlights the bank’s increased focus on providing credit to businesses and individual customers. However, weaker trading income and fee-based revenue reportedly weighed on its financial performance, contributing to lower profit.
Access Bank Ghana Records Growth in Total Assets
Access Bank Ghana’s total assets rose by 5.7% year on year to GH¢20.51 billion, reflecting an expansion in its overall balance sheet.
The growth in loans and advances significantly outpaced the increase in total assets, indicating a shift towards lending activities during the period under review.
The bank’s lending performance comes amid continued attention to credit availability, business financing, and developments in Ghana’s banking sector.
Capital Position Remains Adequate
The bank’s total equity increased by 12.8% to GH¢2.41 billion, supported by retained earnings of GH¢1.49 billion.
However, its capital adequacy ratio declined to 16.35% from 16.87% a year earlier.
The reduction suggests that the bank’s capital position requires continued monitoring as its lending portfolio expands. The shift towards assets with higher regulatory risk weights may also have contributed to the decline.
Despite the lower capital adequacy ratio, the reported figures indicate that Access Bank Ghana maintained a substantial equity base during the nine-month period.
Outlook for Access Bank Ghana
Access Bank Ghana’s financial performance reflects a combination of strong loan growth and pressure on profitability.
While the expansion in loans and advances demonstrates increased lending activity, the decline in profit highlights the importance of improving revenue generation and managing operating costs.
Investors, customers, and banking industry observers will be watching the bank’s subsequent financial results to assess whether its growing loan portfolio can translate into stronger earnings while maintaining adequate capital buffers.
