The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Esq., has pledged to provide 30 laptops to the Nkwantakese Community Information Centre (CIC) in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region to improve digital skills training and expand access to technology-based services.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening digital inclusion, promoting computer literacy and creating more opportunities for residents to benefit from Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

The Minister made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Nkwantakese, Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio II, as part of his two-day working tour of the Ashanti Region. He was accompanied by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Emmanuel Justin Agumah.

Welcoming the Minister and his delegation, Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio II expressed support for the initiative and called for increased public education and awareness campaigns in Nkwantakese and neighbouring communities.

The traditional leader emphasised the importance of encouraging residents to use the Community Information Centre effectively to acquire digital skills and take advantage of the opportunities offered by modern technology.

In response, Samuel Nartey George briefed the chief on the Ministry’s ongoing review and reorganisation of its digital access initiatives. He explained that the reforms are intended to improve service delivery and ensure more communities benefit from government digitalisation programmes.

The Minister also revealed that efforts were underway through the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP) to extend high-speed internet connectivity to Nkwantakese. Improved internet access is expected to complement the planned laptop donation and strengthen digital learning opportunities in the township.

The proposed intervention could help residents develop essential computer skills, access online services, explore digital employment opportunities and participate more actively in Ghana’s growing digital economy.

Samuel Nartey George expressed appreciation to Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio II for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding digital access, promoting technology education and ensuring that communities across Ghana benefit from the government’s digital transformation initiatives.

The planned provision of laptops to Nkwantakese forms part of broader efforts to bridge the digital divide and make technology-enabled learning more accessible to underserved communities.
