President John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with the Western North Regional House of Chiefs at the Presidency, focusing on regional development, infrastructure expansion and strategies to boost economic growth in Ghana.
The meeting provided an opportunity for traditional leaders from the Western North Region to engage the President on key development priorities and explore ways to accelerate economic progress and improve living conditions in their communities.
Mahama Outlines Government’s New Economic Policy
During the engagement, President Mahama outlined the government’s New Economic Policy, which identifies nine priority pillars for investment as part of its broader strategy to transform Ghana’s economy.
According to the President, the policy envisages investments of approximately US$2 billion annually over a five-year period to support national development, strengthen economic activity and create opportunities across various sectors.
The proposed investment drive is expected to support infrastructure development, stimulate private-sector participation and contribute to Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.

Construction Sector Expected to Drive Job Creation
President Mahama also highlighted the important role of the construction industry in creating employment, expanding business opportunities and supporting economic development.
Investment in roads, public infrastructure and other construction projects can generate jobs for skilled and unskilled workers while creating opportunities for contractors, suppliers and small businesses.
The construction sector is also expected to contribute to local economic growth by stimulating demand for building materials, transportation, engineering services and other related industries.
Western North Chiefs Engage Government on Regional Development
The meeting with the Western North Regional House of Chiefs underscores the importance of collaboration between the government and traditional authorities in advancing regional development.
Traditional leaders play an important role in identifying community needs, promoting local investment and supporting initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and economic opportunities.
As the government pursues its New Economic Policy, stakeholders will be watching how the proposed investments translate into tangible development projects, employment opportunities and improved living standards across Ghana, including the Western North Region.
