The government will hire 16,000 nurses in two batches, according to President John Dramani Mahama, in order to improve healthcare service and alleviate staffing shortages, particularly in underprivileged areas.

In order to guarantee that newly trained nurses are hired as quickly as possible, he stated that the first group of 8,000 nurses would be hired shortly, with an additional 8,000 to follow.

During the opening of the Free Primary Healthcare Program at the Ho Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region on Thursday, President Mahama made this announcement.

“We are therefore providing clearance for the recruitment of 16,000 nurses in two batches. The first batch will be 8,000 nurses, followed by another 8,000, so that young people completing their training will not have to wait for long periods before being posted,” he stated.

The President stated that a large number of the recently hired nurses would be assigned to underprivileged communities with the greatest demand for healthcare services.

He encouraged nurses and other medical professionals to serve wherever they are assigned and give patients high-quality care in order to replicate Florence Nightingale’s commitment and compassion.

Additionally, President Mahama reassured healthcare professionals that when the nation’s economy improves, the government will continue to improve their working circumstances.

“I have assured the Minister that as the economy continues to improve, we will continue to work towards improving your conditions of service so that you are encouraged and motivated to continue the important work you do,” he stated.

The President praised the Ho Municipal Hospital’s management and employees for their 100 years of service, calling medical professionals one of the nation’s most vital workers due to their critical role in protecting Ghanaians’ health.
