The Ministry of Health (MoH) has extended the deadline for health professionals recently recruited and posted to various districts to report to their assigned places of work.
The new deadline has been set for August 31, 2026, and the Ministry has described the extension as the final notice to all affected health professionals.
The extension applies to professionals who applied for postings, successfully completed the required interviews and screening, and were assigned to health facilities or duty posts across the country.
Health Workers Urged to Complete Posting Process
The Ministry said some successful applicants have already reported to their assigned facilities and started the mechanisation process, with some professionals already receiving their salaries.
The Ministry of Health has also moved to clarify the recruitment, posting and salary payment process following the circulation of what it described as misleading information.
According to the Ministry, every recruited health professional must complete a series of administrative procedures before being captured on the government payroll.
Health Ministry Recruitment and Salary Payment Process
The established process involves the following steps:
- Financial clearance: The Ministry of Health first receives financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance to recruit eligible health professionals.
- Recruitment portal: The Ministry opens the official recruitment portal for qualified applicants.
- Application for posting: Eligible health professionals apply for postings to their preferred districts.
- Interviews and screening: Applicants undergo interviews and screening in their respective districts.
- Acceptance of posting: Successful applicants accept their assigned postings.
- Confirmation of duty: The health facility confirms that the applicant has assumed duty and submits the required documentation to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) or other relevant agencies.
- Appointment letter: The appropriate agency generates an appointment letter to enable the health professional to complete the requirements for salary processing.
- Salary validation and payment: After the salary input process is completed, the facility validates the worker’s salary details before payment is effected through the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
Ministry Explains Health Workers’ Salary Mechanisation
The Ministry stressed that all recruited health professionals must complete the required procedures before their salaries can be paid.
It said the process is necessary to ensure that only legitimate employees are captured on the government payroll and to prevent ghost names, irregular salary payments and payment for work not performed.
The Ministry has therefore directed Human Resource Directors and relevant officers to speed up the necessary administrative processes to ensure that qualified health professionals who have already reported for duty are promptly captured and processed for salary payment.
Directors and managers have also been instructed to use the September 2026 data-entry window to mechanise all eligible professionals who have assumed duty.
Deadline for Health Professionals to Report
Health professionals who fail to report to their assigned facilities by August 31, 2026, without an approved and justifiable reason, risk having their names removed from the recruitment and posting system.
The affected positions will subsequently be filled through a mop-up recruitment exercise scheduled for the first week of September 2026.
The Ministry of Health has urged all affected health professionals to take advantage of the final extension and report to their assigned health facilities before the deadline.
The directive is expected to help accelerate the health worker recruitment, posting, mechanisation and salary payment process while ensuring that eligible professionals are properly captured on the government payroll.
