The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is essential to Ghana’s efforts to achieve sustainable development, fiscal stability, and climate resilience, according to Deputy Minister of Finance Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Mr. Ampem reiterated the government’s steadfast dedication to its long-standing collaboration with the UN development agency while speaking at the Ministry of Finance during a courtesy call by UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Niloy Banerjee and his entourage.

As the nation moves forward with its post-COVID-19 recovery and medium-term development targets, the Deputy Minister emphasized the close alignment between UNDP’s interventions and the Government’s 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, emphasizing the importance of this synergy.

He praised UNDP’s collaborative efforts to help Ghana’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), as well as to improve the nation’s resilience and climate financing accessibility.

“We recognize UNDP as a thought leader and strategic partner and acknowledge the value of the organization’s support in bridging financial gaps and advancing economic development,” he said.

$60 Million UNDP Investment Praised

Mr. Ampem recognized the substantial financial contributions made to Ghana’s growth by the UNDP.

More than $60 million has been distributed by the agency in the last five years to assist projects related to digital innovation, youth employment, governance, and climate change.

“UNDP has been instrumental in supporting a broad range of development initiatives, including sustainable finance and capacity building,” he said. “We appreciate the consistent commitment and leadership demonstrated by UNDP in helping Ghana realize its national aspirations.”

He praised the UNDP’s unwavering dedication to Ghana’s development and said that any further assistance to strengthen the nation’s efforts to raise money would be greatly appreciated.

The UNDP’s contributions to the Integrated National Financing Framework, help in creating a climate finance strategy, and the SDG Investor Map—which finds private sector investment opportunities in vital industries like infrastructure and agriculture—are some of the program’s main features.

UNDP Reaffirms Support for Ghana’s Development Agenda

Mr. Niloy Banerjee, the UNDP Resident Representative, praised the Ghanaian government for its revolutionary economic policies.

He underlined the UNDP’s dedication to advancing Ghana’s development goal and promised to look into ways to strengthen and broaden current areas of cooperation.

Mr. Banerjee further underlined continued collaboration under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2025 and stated that UNDP is prepared to support the Government in its efforts to restructure its debt.

The framework promotes inclusive economic growth, climate resilience, and governance—three important national concerns.
