The Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) hosted the first National Youth Conference on Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (NREG) on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

The conference’s theme was “Promoting Effective Youth Participation in the Governance of the Natural Resources and Environmental Sector.”

In a speech, the Lands Minister emphasized the crucial role that young people play in NREG. This is because young people always bring fresh perspectives to natural resource management and are more likely to embrace innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental and natural resource management. Young people also bear the immediate consequences of environmental degradation and the depletion of our natural resources.

The One Student One Tree initiative, which is part of the Green Ghana Project, the Youth in Afforestation Program, the Youth in Plantation Establishment as an Occupation Program, the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Program, Community Mining Schemes, and the Ghana Youth Development Initiative were just a few of the policies Hon. Jinapor used the occasion to highlight.

He said that the government of President Akufo-Addo remains fully and unwaveringly committed to the efficient and effective management of our nation’s natural resources, and that youth participation is essential in this respect.

He declared, “We will keep working with all stakeholders to ensure the sustainable management of these resources, grounded on the highest norms of transparency, integrity, and ultimate good faith.

Young people from all around the nation were gathered at the conference to discuss how to empower them to act as change agents and advance good governance in the natural resources and environmental sectors.
