At the conclusion of today’s voting, Kumawu residents chose Ernest Yaw Anim of the New Patriotic Party to represent them in parliament.
With 15,364 votes, Mr. Anim defeated Kwasi Amankwaa of the NDC, who received 3723.
Independent candidate Kwaku Duah, who was expected to pull off an unexpected victory, failed not live up to expectations and received only 2478 votes. Kwaku Duah, another independent candidate, received a pitiful 62 votes.
The NPP and NDC sent out high-level representatives to serve as polling officials, and the election was relatively calm despite a strong police presence. Phillip Basoah, the incumbent MP, passed away and was buried on Saturday, May 20, 2023, forcing a by-election.
