A 38-year-old man passed away in a police cell after being detained on suspicion of defiling his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
In the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) region of the Central Region, Emmanuel Cudjoe, a carpenter from Ayensudo, close to Elmina, was taken into custody and placed in a police cell in Egyeikrom.
In connection with the alleged defilement, he was captured on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
However, he was discovered dead at the police cell later that day; according to police sources, this was a suspected suicide.
The suspect was discovered dead in a holding cell at the Egyeikrom Police Station on the day of his arrest, according to the Central Regional Police Command’s Public Relations Unit.
According to preliminary police reports, he allegedly used a piece of cloth from the edge of a blanket that was placed in the cell.
He was discovered hanging in the cell.
