President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a cutting-edge PET Scan facility at the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, calling it as a significant step forward in Ghana’s quest for world-class healthcare delivery and medical sovereignty.
According to President Mahama, the cutting-edge diagnostic facility will enhance early cancer detection, improve treatment results, and lessen the need for Ghanaians to travel overseas for specialised medical care.
The institution, he continued, establishes Ghana as a potential medical center for the West African subregion.

The $300 million STARR-J plan, which aims to terminate the double-track system by 2027, new regional hospitals, more CAT labs, teacher housing projects, and other significant interventions in healthcare, education, and housing were also announced by the president.
He praised GNAT and the Swedish Ghana Medical Center’s management for their innovative investment, emphasising that education, teacher welfare, and high-quality healthcare continue to be at the top of Ghana’s national development agenda.
