Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, better known as “Taacum,” was given a life sentence by the Kumasi High Court for the murder of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, who was 26 years old.

A seven-member jury found the officer guilty by a majority vote of 5–2, and Justice Rosemond Baah-Tosu handed the sentence on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Inspector Twumasi was convicted for shooting Maadwoa many times in the belly and chest at close range near her apartment at Adum, Kumasi, on April 20, 2023.

The police officer allegedly demanded GH¢5,000 from the deceased, which led to the murder, according to the prosecution.

After she didn’t pay him back, he confronted her and killed her with a bullet from his service weapon.

Three days later, following a police manhunt, the prisoner was taken into custody at Sekyere, close to Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

Although Inspector Twumasi originally admitted to the shooting, he maintained that it was an accident.

A complete trial that lasted over three years ensued when he later entered a not guilty plea.

The deceased’s family members who attended the courtroom were relieved by the decision, calling it “justice at last.”

The case, which garnered national attention, brought up new issues regarding police discipline and the improper use of firearms provided by the government.
