Sara Araba Tettey, a 26-year-old private legal practitioner, died of heart arrest.

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, during celebrations after Ghana defeated Panama 1-0 in their opening FIFA World Cup match.

Ms Tettey, an associate at O & A Legal Consult and a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Faculty of Law, was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year.

Sources claim that she was in Standard Hostel, a private student residence in Bomso close to the KNUST campus in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, watching the football game with pals.

She suddenly became unresponsive as fans celebrated the final whistle.

She was transported to KNUST Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 45 minutes in an attempt to revive her, but she was later pronounced dead.

Friends and former students have characterised Ms Tettey, also known as Araba Tettey, as a hard-working and dedicated person.

Her body has been placed in the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and final funeral preparations.
