The Accra High Court has denied a bail application filed by lawyer Nana Baffour Awuah on behalf of Salomey Awity Bafoh, a nurse and mother of three who has been remanded for two weeks in connection with an ongoing case involving social media critic Ghana Jollof.
The court reportedly declined the bail request after considering concerns surrounding the ongoing cyber-related investigation.
According to Nana Baffour Awuah, who disclosed the development during a press conference, the presiding judge indicated that releasing Salomey Bafoh on bail could potentially affect the integrity of evidence in the case.
The lawyer explained that the court’s decision was based partly on concerns that the accused could allegedly delete or interfere with information that investigators may require as evidence.
Nana Baffour Awuah said the judge noted that police investigations are still ongoing and that the matter involves cybersecurity issues.
He quoted the court as saying that granting bail could create an opportunity for information relevant to the investigation to be deleted, potentially affecting the ongoing case.
The development has brought renewed attention to the handling of cybercrime cases, digital evidence and social media-related investigations in Ghana, as the court process continues.
